Cash Products
Euronext
Euronext’s cash markets registered their busiest September ever with 25.6 million transactions completed in September 2007, up 58.8% from the same month last year, representing an average daily volume of 1.3 million transactions, up 66.8% compared to September 2006. Since the beginning of the year, almost 236 million cash transactions were registered on Euronext compared to 163 million during the same period a year ago.
Euronext reported 24.6 million equities transactions in September 2007, up 68.2% year-on-year on an average daily basis. This brought the year-to-date total number of transactions to 226 million, up 45.0% versus the same period last year.
Year-on-year transactions on Euronext were up 146.2% for ETFs and up 31.3% for Structured Products, which includes warrants and certificates.
NYSE Group
NYSE Group’s exchanges reported 2.5 billion shares handled per day in September, up 4.1% year-over-year. Average daily handled volume in 2007 was up 15.8% since the beginning of the year.
NYSE Group’s operations in NYSE-listed securities reported 2.0 billion shares handled per day, up 9.3% from the same month last year with total volume in 2007 up 19.3% year-to-date.
NYSE Group’s operations in ETF trading reported 264 million shares handled daily, up 49.2% from the same period last year with total volume in 2007 up 56.6% year-to-date.
In September, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NYSE Arca, Inc. (NYSE Arca) announced new strategic pricing for equities transactions for customers, effective Oct. 1. Developed to offer attractive rates to all customers using NYSE Group exchanges, this new pricing schedule has no volume tiers, and offers the highest rebate and the lowest take fees among major U.S. exchanges.
On September 21, the New York Stock Exchange processed new 30-minute and 60-minute trading volume records for the first hour of trading with 704 million shares traded during the first half-hour and 805 million shares traded in the first hour.
Derivatives Products
Liffe
Liffe, NYSE Euronext’s leading futures and options business, recorded its busiest September ever, trading a total of 95.7 million futures and options contracts, up 46.1% from September last year. Over 724 million contracts have been traded year-to-date, up 28.7% from the same period last year.
Interest rate products traded almost 54 million contracts in September, up 39.1% from the same month last year. Of this, 51.7 million contracts were in short-term interest rate (STIR) products, where Liffe’s Short Sterling Futures and Options both registered all-time record volumes. Over 398 million interest rate contracts have been traded year-to-date, up 26.0% from the same period last year.
Equity products traded 40.8 million contracts in September, up 57.6% from the same month last year. More than 316 million equity contracts have been traded year-to-date, up 32.3% year-on-year.
Liffe’s commodity products traded 1.1 million futures and options contracts in September, up 37.5% from September last year. Volumes are up 26.7% year-to-date.
NYSE Arca Options
NYSE Arca reported 1.2 million equity options contracts executed daily on average in September, up 61.4% from the same month last year. Over 220 million equity options contracts have executed since the beginning of the year, up 61.3% year-to-date.
From January 1 through September 30, 2007, NYSE Arca Options achieved a 90% increase in its share of trading in SEC penny pilot issues.
NYSE Arca’s average daily volume in the penny pilot issues has increased 165% to 293 thousand contracts per day in September, up from 110 thousand contracts per day in January 2007.
Listings
Euronext
Six IPOs were added on Euronext’s markets in September 2007, bringing the total number of IPOs since the beginning of the year to a record 107, as compared to 88 during the same period in 2006, with €5.9/$8.4 billion raised in connection with new listings.
Additionally, four new ETFs were listed on NextTrack in September, bringing the total number of new ETF listings since the beginning of the year to 57.
NYSE Group
September produced 17 new listings on NYSE Group markets, including 5 operating companies, 5 Closed-End Fund listings and 7 ETFs.
There were 7 IPOs in September, including 2 U.S. domestic operating companies and 5 Closed-End Funds. The other new listings were 2 non-US companies, including 1 non-US IPO, and 1 spin-off.
The 2 U.S. domestic operating companies that conducted IPOs on NYSE Group markets raised a total of €226.3/$321.8 million in IPO proceeds, and 1 non-US company raised €302.4/$430 million in proceeds in connection with listing. 5 closed-end funds joined the NYSE in September, raising €615.7/$875.5 million in proceeds, in connection with listing. A total of €1.1/$1.6 billion in total IPO proceeds, including funds, were raised on NYSE Group markets during September.
